Decree on Implementing the Motu Proprio, Traditiones Custodes

As many of you have heard, the Chancellor’s office issued a decree this week regarding the Traditional Latin Mass in the Diocese of St. Augustine. The document is hidden on the diocesan website (dosafl.com) under DIOCESE > Our Bishop > Letters, Talks & Statements.

For your convenience, you may download the document here.

Key takeaways from the document:

  • The celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass in the Diocese of St. Augustine will be available exclusively at St. Joseph’s Historic Church and St. Edward Parish in Starke. The TLM at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and St. Patrick Parish on the Northside will be discontinued, effective June 29, 2022.
  • There will be no increase in Mass times other than what is scheduled at St. Joseph’s and St. Edward’s.
  • The only priests allowed to celebrate the TLM are those who have been authorized by the bishop.
  • There can be no celebration of other sacraments and/or rites according to the Rituale Romanum of 1962.
